Rust getting hefty next-gen update, but current versions will become unplayable

Time to upgrade

The hugely popular multiplayer survival game, Rust, is getting a hefty update, but it will result in the game becoming unplayable for fans on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The developers behind the hit game have decided to focus on the current generation of consoles, meaning players who haven’t yet upgraded to a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series console, will get left behind.

Rust has remained popular since its launch, pulling in millions of players

The change comes four years after Rust launched for newer consoles, and developer Double Eleven has said that the game will be completely unplayable for those on older hardware.

It will not impact PC players, so if you’re playing on your gaming rig, you can carry on looting.

What can players do? Well, if you’re on PlayStation 4 and decide to invest in a PlayStation 5, you will get a free upgrade to the newer version of the game.

Of course, you can even claim this edition even if you don’t yet own a PlayStation 5, but will upgrade in the near future.

The update will arrive in October, and Double Eleven are preparing the “wipe of all wipes” to make sure the old version of the game goes out with a bang.

The new-gen version of Rust will be available as standard, deluxe, and ultimate editions, offering fans more for their money.

The popular survival game is still pulling in players every day, and it has become a mainstay on streaming platforms, as well as YouTube.

The shift to a new-gen only version of the game is to be expected as technology improves and developers seek to get more out of their games, bringing new features and opportunities to the table.

There’s no information yet on whether Xbox players will receive a similar free upgrade to the new version of the game, but should we hear about it, we’ll be the first to let you know.
