It’s a fantastic time to be a fan of the Resident Evil series. During PlayStation’s State of Play a couple of weeks ago the Resident Evil 4 Remake was finally confirmed, after months of rumours and insider info doing the rounds.

If that wasn’t enough, we also just found out that a huge DLC expansion is coming to Resident Evil Village, which includes a new story expansion, third person mode, and even playable Lady Dimitrescu added to The Mercenaries arcade mode. Before any of that comes out though, there’s some amazing additions to the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3, as well as Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, which you can get your hands on right now.

Before we get into it, take a look at the trailer for Resident Evil Village's DLC expansion below (beware of spoilers if you've not finished the main game, though).

Everyone stay calm - the new-gen upgrades are upon us. Anyone who already owns any (or all) of this trio on PS5, Xbox Series X/S or PC can download the new and improved versions right now for free, and experience stunning visuals with ray tracing, faster loading times, higher frame rate, and 3D audio. As reported by GamesRadar+, the PS5 versions also make full use of the DualSense controller, utilising the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback for a greater level of immersion. The PC upgrades are available via a patch.

While save data can be carried over to the upgrade, the official website notes that for those moving from the PS4 to PS5 versions, a number of trophies from Resident Evil 7 and its Gold Edition DLC can’t be transferred. These include “End of the Night”, “Out Before Dessert”, and “Just A Memory Now” - make sure to check out the full list here. All the trophies not listed there will be transferred, so long as your game was saved after getting it.

All exciting stuff, right? Again, you can get stuck into these upgraded versions right now - they’ll certainly help buy you some time before the release of Village’s DLC on 28 October, and Resident Evil 4 Remake on 24 March next year.
