Resident Evil gamers are not best pleased over a brand new Capcom release earlier this month.
The Resident Evil series is one of the video game industry’s most popular properties, perhaps even more so nowadays, despite the series being around for nearly 30 years.
Ever since Capcom released the first game on the original PlayStation in 1996, the Resident Evil franchise has been my all-time favourite, and now, like millions of other fans, I can’t wait for the release of Resident Evil Requiem early next year.
In my hands-on preview of Resident Evil Requiem, I said: “This demo left me terrified and wanting more. If this demo sets the tone for what’s to come in the full game, Resident Evil Requiem has the potential to be the scariest game in the series.”

However, before Resident Evil Requiem graced us with its presence, we were treated to an unexpected release. Well, maybe “treated” might be the wrong word to use, depending on your perspective. The game in question is the mobile title, Resident Evil Survival Unit.
Resident Evil Survival Unit is a strategy game, similar in some ways to tower defence titles. That being said, despite being downloaded over one million times worldwide, not everyone is happy with the new Resident Evil game developed by JOYCITY Corporation and Aniplex Inc.
Is Resident Evil Survival Unit a Bad Game?
“In the world of Resident Evil Survival Unit, strategy holds the key to survival. As an unknown infection spreads, the city crumbles in the blink of an eye,” reads the synopsis of the game.

“You are left stranded in the ruins with a group of isolated survivors. Build your base, secure resources, and expand your influence to carve out a path to survival!”
“My tolerance has reached its limit,” announced Redditor SidewinderSerpent, sharing an edited GIF of Leon S. Kennedy after being infected by Las Plagas.
“I've played gacha before, but not this kind of gacha.”

You made it further than me,” exclaimed Brads_Gaming24

“That game sucks,” replied kain459. “If it were only a third-person isometric view game, it would be mostly fun.”
“As usual, the gacha aspects kick in harder, much later. When you first start, it's not the absolute worst,” said Urabraska.
If you want to see if Resident Evil Survival Unit is as bad as some say, you can play it for free on compatible Android and iOS devices.
As for Resident Evil Requiem, that will be released on 27 February 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2.
