Resident Evil 9 tease isn't at all what we were expecting

Well, that was a let down

Update: Resident Evil 9: Requiem has now been announced. Very funny Capcom, I see you with your "blink of an eye more". The original story remains below.

Despite the fact that fans were expecting tonight’s Summer Game Fest to feature a brand-new Resident Evil 9 trailer, many were left feeling disappointed after a mere tease.

To celebrate the upcoming 30th anniversary of Resident Evil, Geoff Keighley got Summer Game Fest viewers excited with the rumoured trailer for Resident Evil 9.

However, it soon appears as though all of our hope was worth nothing as the event merely announced that a trailer would arrive some time in the future.

Instead of the highly-anticipated trailer, fans merely got to see a brief teaser cinematic which teased Racoon City with Lady Dimitrescu’s voice actor Maggie Robertson singing a rendition of Happy Birthday.

However, the teaser soon cut to a video of Capcom’s Jun Takeuchi who serves as the executive producer for Resident Evil and had the following message for fans.

“Thanks to all of you, Resident Evil is about to celebrate its 30th anniversary this coming March. We truly appreciate your continued support. Now, about the latest Resident Evil game you’ve all been waiting for, bear with us a little longer, just a blink of an eye more, and it’ll be ready.”

And that was it.

Despite rumours that the full release trailer for Resident Evil 9 would be shown at tonight’s Summer Game Fest, it seems as though it is just not ready yet but that did not stop Capcom from announcing a sale at least.

Resident Evil 9 was first announced back in July 2024 but details on the project still remain scarce.

What we do know is that Leon is likely to return as a playable character and he will star alongside a new, unknown character who will also lead the series forward in the future.

Hopefully the official Resident Evil 9 trailer will be ready soon and fans will get to see what Capcom has been cooking since the latest entry was released.
