GTA VI fans have sparked a theory that’s spawned from Red Dead Redemption 2, which has given new hope that trailer three is just days away.

It’s another day, which means another 24 hours have passed, and we’ve still not been treated to the long-awaited trailer for the third entry in Rockstar Games’ ever-popular Grand Theft Auto series.

The last trailer that dropped for GTA VI was all the way back on 6 May 2025, which obviously means it's been a gruelling wait for what could be its third and final story trailer. Then, the agonising wait begins to get our first look at the next iteration of GTA Online.

What’s the Theory Sparked by Red Dead Redemption 2?

In a nutshell, when Red Dead Redemption 2 was released on 26 October 2018, its third trailer dropped 177 days before its launch. As of right now, we’re now at that same number of days, ahead of GTA VI’s launch this coming November. That’s assuming, of course, that it doesn't get delayed again.

“Damn,” said Redditor BorrisZ, sharing an image detailing the gap between the third trailer and release for Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA VI.

“Trailer three of GTA V was 143 days before launch, so I guess it's still on track,” pointed out Alan_Cow.

“I mean, just remember that we made it 518 days between trailer one and two, so we’ve already experienced the worst of it,” said Puzzleheaded-Emu6338.

“Take-Two literally confirmed that marketing and all that stuff will happen in the summer,” replied ZOoNeR, making a very valid point.

“What if there's no trailer three at all?” suggested PG_147. “Is there a gameplay trailer now? Just curious, as Rockstar seems to handle everything differently for GTA VI, no patterns are followed from the past. Who knows?”

Now, that would be a wild marketing strategy, that would stress out gamers more than it already is. So, Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive, please don’t do that.

I, like everyone else, really hope that the third trailer for GTA VI drops sooner rather than later and with that big marketing push still yet to launch this summer, hopefully, we’ve not got much longer to wait. Of course, we’ll keep you posted.

At the time of writing, Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to be released on 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The inevitable PC ports hasnt beenn announced yet.
