It looks like Red Dead Redemption’s free Netflix release has been a resounding success, while the paid version of the game has suffered in sales.

In case you missed the news, Red Dead Redemption came to mobile platforms at the tail end of 2025, releasing on Android and iOS alongside the next-gen version.

The mobile version of Red Dead Redemption is available through an active Netflix subscription, where users can play the entire game on their phones either using touch controls or a connected gamepad.

While it might not be the original intended way to play Red Dead Redemption, which was initially only available to play on console for 14 years, the mobile release has seen a great deal of success.

As reported by mobilegamer.biz, Red Dead Redemption has seen 3.3 million downloads since its launch on 2 December, 2025.

This makes it one of the biggest games to launch on Netflix since the app started offering game downloads in 2021. However, it’s unclear how many new subscriptions were added to Netflix’s growing list of users as a result of the game becoming available on the app.

Red Dead Redemption Fails To Make A Splash As A Paid Title

Meanwhile, the premium version of the game, which costs $39.99 on iOS and Android, brought around 10,750 downloads, much lower than the 3.3 million that Netflix reports.

10,750 downloads has earned Rockstar Games around $430k, not an insignificant amount by any means, but considering the data suggests that Rockstar earns around $2.5 million a day from GTA Online alone, it’s a tiny drop in the pool of money that Take-Two takes home.

It’s also fairly low compared to what a lot of free mobile games tend to rake in, with titles such as Pokémon GO, Clash of Clans, Garena Free Fire clearing $430,000 fairly easily.

Red Dead Redemption is just the latest title in a long line of AAA publishers attempting to bring their large library of games over to mobile platforms.

Now that mobile phones are capable of playing games from current-gen consoles, we’ve seen the likes of Resident Evil 2, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and Death Stranding hit the app stores on iOS and Android.

However, many of these games have struggled to earn a lot from these releases.

It’s possible that the premium pricing puts off a lot of gamers, who don’t want to spend $49.99 to play a game on a device they keep in their pocket.
