Beneath the surface, Red Dead Redemption 2 is home to all manner of creepy beings and discoveries and the mysterious Night Folk is a prime example of this.

Despite approaching its six-year anniversary, Red Dead Redemption 2 is as loved today as it was back in 2018.

Praised for its gripping narrative, fun gameplay and an open-world full to the brim with secrets, Easter eggs, features and more, it is no wonder that Rockstar is often hailed as the masters of storytelling.

However, as with any game of this scale, there are still some mysteries that have gone unsolved and the Night Folk of Bayou Nwa and Bluewater Marsh are a prime example.

Found in and around the swamps, the Night Folk are a gang of “Voodoo-esque killers” who attack people by setting up traps and murdering their victims in a very gruesome manner.

After displaying the corpses of their victims for all to see, they seemingly disappear during the day which has led some players to question their story.

With evidence of rituals set up by them, they obviously have some questionable beliefs but who are they really?

According to one user over on r/RDR2, the answer might be obvious.

In a post asking: “What’s the backstory behind Night Folk? What exactly are they and why do they do what they do?”, one answer stood out.

“I heard this one theory that they're actually the people from St. Denis, and they just go to the Swamp at night. That's why they cover their faces and never speak, so they don't reveal who they are.

Seems a little shaky, but I kinda like the idea.”

With the Night Folk mostly disappearing during the day, it would make sense that they live different lives during the daylight hours.

However, their ambiguous nature makes them even scarier and sometimes a mystery doesn’t always need to be solved.
