Red Dead Redemption 2 Set For 2026 Comeback, Console Players Get Something PC's Had For Years

Supposedly coming this year!

Red Dead Redemption 2 fans who play on console may be in luck, as an enhanced version of the game seems finally set to release sometime this year.

Red Dead Redemption 2 players on PC may have been able to play an enhanced version of the game for years, but Xbox and PlayStation gamers have been stuck with the last-gen version since 2018.

On modern platforms, RDR2 runs at 30fps and reduced graphics settings. And while it still looks absolutely gorgeous, a next-gen upgrade for the game would do it wonders.

It seems that Xbox and PlayStation players are set to get a new-gen version of the game at some point this year though, according to new sources which have teased Xbox Series X/S and PS5 ports.

One person asked industry insider NateTheHate2 on X (formerly Twitter) if Red Dead Redemption 2 “is still slated for this year”, presumably meaning the next-gen upgrade which Nate has shared knowledge of before.

“As far as I know, RDR2 is this year,” Nate wrote back.

Has Rockstar Games Announced A Next Gen Port For Red Dead Redemption 2?

While Rockstar Games hasn’t officially announced a next-gen upgrade for Red Dead Redemption 2, it makes sense that the company would want to put one out before it launches Grand Theft Auto VI in November later this year.

In recent years, Rockstar released enhanced versions of GTA VI for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

It also brought out a new-gen version of the original Red Dead Redemption, as well as the controversial remasters of the 3D GTA trilogy.

Overall, it seems like the developer wants to bring its most popular games to modern generation systems, hence why the lack of a Red Dead Redemption 2 port seems all the more puzzling.

If it really is coming this year though, it seems like console players will finally be able to enjoy the game at increased resolutions and better framerates.

As someone who started playing the game on PS4, but ended up finishing it on PC, I’d say the game looked a lot better on the latter system.

As for when we could see this new version of the game become a reality, my money’s on this summer as Rockstar starts building up goodwill ahead of the GTA VI launch in November.
