Red Dead Redemption 2 Gamers Horrified to Learn What Happened to Cain the Dog

It's too painful to hear

It’s been a good while since Rockstar Games’ acclaimed prequel Red Dead Redemption 2 landed.

And yet, to this day, there are some aspects of the title that remain a mystery to players, like what happened to Cain the dog, for example.

Cain is, as I’m sure you’re aware, a stray who wandered into the Van der Linde gang’s camp where he quickly secured the devotion of Jack.

Dutch gave permission for the adorable pooch to stay, even helping to name him Cain.

Later on in the game, around the time the gang set up shop in Beaver Hollow, Cain went missing, and it’s here that you may have missed his fate.

It’s subtle, but Red Dead Redemption 2 actually alludes to Micah killing Cain the dog.

“Kid, the dog is gone, you can be quiet now,” he states at one point during a camp interaction.

“The dog ain’t coming back, now get lost,” he tells an upset Jack before menacingly chuckling.

Of course, it’s not totally clear exactly what Micah did to Cain but if he’s so certain he isn’t coming back, it most certainly won’t be anything that left Cain alive.

Some fan theories point to Micah killing Cain and secretly feeding him to the camp.

Others just think Micah probably dumped poor Cain the river.

Either way, the truth is most definitely bad news - and news that continues to upset fans to this day.

“I didn't know he killed the dog. This news to me. After seven years of playing too. Damn man... Micah truly is a bastard,” wrote Reddit user JedediahAndElizabeth.

“I’m so freaking angry with that rat, Micah,” added meme_therud.

“This s**t can't be for real wtf?” declared S2suke.

“I could see Micah selling him behind everyone's backs as an extra f**k you to the gang,” said Thebritishdovah with an alternative theory.

“Well my theory is that it was in the night, Javier or Bill were on guard and the rest was asleep,” commented Ame_K7409.

It’s not something I imagine Rockstar will ever confirm as if Cain did meet a grisly end, no one truly wants to know the ins and outs of that.

I’m going to gaslight myself into believing that Micah just sold him off to a new loving home, and he lived out the rest of his days snoozing infront of a warm fire in a cosy cabin somewhere.

That’s what happened, right guys?
