Rockstar Games is understandably preoccupied with adding the finishing touches to next year’s Grand Theft Auto VI.
That being said, it surely isn’t all that hard to release a quick 60fps update for Red Dead Redemption 2?
It’s criminal, really, that we’re five years into this current generation of consoles and one of the previous gen’s most popular games is still without a new-gen update.
What makes this all the more painful is that insiders have claimed that a 60fps update is on the way on multiple occasions.

Such claims surfaced earlier this year, with many insiders suggesting that a 60fps new-gen update could launch as soon as this autumn to occupy the gap left behind by GTA VI.
As you may recall, GTA VI was originally due to launch this year before it was delayed.
Well, it’s autumn. Could that update land in the next month or so?
It’s nigh impossible to say given that there’s no official evidence to go off.

Those original rumours claimed that the new-gen update might arrive alongside a port of Red Dead Redemption 2 to Nintendo Switch 2 consoles.
The only problem here is that Nintendo just held a pretty stonky Nintendo Direct.
Surely if the port was real, it would have been mentioned here? Then again, Rockstar has always preferred to make its announcements on social media.
The only thing that’s really for certain is the fact that fans are desperate to see updates made to this all-time great.

“The one thing I want is haptic triggers,” wrote Reddit user onlyothernameleft.
“I’m ready for another 1000 hours of gameplay,” added lone_swordsman08.
“Don't mind HD, but need 60fps definitely 100% to fully enjoy this game, I have enjoyed it otherwise with slow camera panning but can't get used to it like I have GTA V PS5 version,” remarked TheWatcher961.
“I’m ready for another playthrough after 800 hrs but I will wait and hope this hits soonish,” stated OriginalZog.

It certainly goes without saying that if or when a 60fps new-gen update does land, we’ll bring that news to you.
Surely it is a matter of ‘when’. Yes, Red Dead Redemption 2 still plays fantastically on current-gen hardware but the demand for an update is palpable.
One thing we do know is on the way is more content for Red Dead Online.
You may recall the surprise ‘Strange Tales of the West’ update that landed back in July, adding new content to Red Dead Online for what felt like the first time in forever.

Well, that was Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 is yet to surface, so I suppose that’ll be something to keep us busy.
