Elden Ring fans have had a pretty good year with the release of Elden Ring: Nightreign, and a huge DLC expansion is on the way too.
While you wait for your next gang of bosses to rush though, why not check out this gorgeous PlayStation 5 freebie, which is definitely one for the FromSoftware crowd.
Elden Ring was a surprisingly vibrant game from FromSoftware, as the studio has always been associated with darker, grimier tones as seen in Demon Souls, Dark Souls and Bloodborne.
Perennial Order captures that moody atmosphere perfectly with every frame looking like a work of art in its own right.

While not a traditional soulslike Perennial Order is a boss rush game filled with “unspeakable horrors.” Like FromSoftware’s work these boss encounters will be separated with NPC interactions, and you can even play the entire game with a friend if you fancy some jolly-cooperation.
What Perennial Order is seemingly championing over anything else is atmosphere, as the screenshots alone make me feel really uneasy when looking at the game’s bosses and enemy designs. If you thought Bloodborne had some disturbing encounters I don’t think you’ve seen anything yet.

At the time of writing the game is only around £16 which isn’t much but if you’re intent on trying before buying there’s a demo available to play instead.

You can also find the game on Steam, and it’s even Steam Deck-verified if you fancy playing it on a handheld instead.
If anything it’s worth a go while you wait for the next FromSoftware project, which is currently the Elden Ring: Nightreign DLC expansion but The Duskbloods next year, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2.
New challengers in the Lands Between
More on the Elden Ring: Nightreign DLC for those who missed it, it’s called The Forsaken Hollows and launches next month on 4 December.

It’ll add some new playable classes to the multiplayer soulslike in addition to a new area with two new menacing bosses.
One of these bosses is Artorias from the Dark Souls DLC expansion, Artorias of the Abyss, and I couldn’t be more excited to see him return.
He’s one of my favourite boss battles in the entire Dark Souls trilogy and I’m looking forward to seeing what new tricks he has up his sleeve.
After all FromSoftware combat has changed a lot over the years so he’ll need a significant buff to keep up with modern players.
