As much as gamers enjoy criticising remakes and remasters, it doesn’t change the fact that nostalgia is very lucrative.
People yearn to revisit their favourite titles of yesteryear.
Certainly, it’s preferable when we can do both that and sample some new IPs or instalments, but these blasts from the past aren’t going away anytime soon.
In fact, another remaster is seemingly on the way as the return of an iconic PlayStation 1 RPG has surfaced online.

As reported by ComicBook, Tales of Eternia Remastered has appeared on the Pan European game Information website, more commonly known as PEGI.
It was on 16 April that the unannounced title seemingly received a rating, letting the cat out of the bag way before Bandai Namco had the chance to make an official announcement.
Tales of Eternia first landed on the PlayStation 1 in Japan in November of 2000, later arriving in North America in September of the following year.
It didn’t actually become available in Europe until 2006 when it was ported to the PSP, so it certainly had a long rollout.
It’s very much your classic Bandai Namco, then known as Namco, flavouring of RPG, set within a rich and colourful fantasy world.
The game is set in the world of Inferia and follows protagonist Reid Hershel, a young hunter, and his friends Farah and Keele.
The trio encounter the mysterious Meredy who speaks an unknown language, sending the group out on a quest to discover where it is that Meredy comes from.

It’s a journey that takes them to the realm of Celestia with Reid’s group finding themselves at the heart of an ancient conflict between two worlds.
In terms of gameplay, players would traverse an overworld map, filled with various towns, cities, and NPCs where they could gather information, trade with merchants, unlock recipes to create healing items, and unlock quests.
When it came to combat, Tales of Eternia made use of a ‘Linear Motion Battle System’ which used both RPG and traditional fighting elements.
It was a real-time system that, in essence, was far more akin to what you’d find in Street Fighter more so than an action RPG.
Within battle, you’d control just one member of the group at a time.
Given that Bandai Namco hasn’t officially announced Tales of Eternia Remastered, we have no idea exactly what changes we should expect, if any, beyond graphical tweaks.
The PEGI page has since been removed but it did show the title as launching on Nintendo Switch.
That was the only platform listed but it’s likely that others will eventually be announced given that Bandai Namco typically opts for cross-party releases.
Usually, games are rated relatively close to launch, at least within a couple of months so by all accounts, Tales of Eternia Remastered will be ours before we know it.
It just awaits to be seen when it’ll officially be unveiled.
