Amazon MGM has announced that a video game based on Project Hail Mary will release later this year.
Project Hail Mary is one of 2026’s biggest movies, raking in $218 million domestically in the United States and Canada, and $203 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $422 million.
It seems that success has already propelled the movie into a wider franchise, with a video game adaptation from Amazon MGM already confirmed to be on the way.
Project Hail Mary: Journey Among The Stars introduces a brand new chapter to the story developed in collaboration with Andy Weir, the original writer of the 2021 book. It’s developed by VR and AR studio behind titles like Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow and Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom.
Described as a “mixed reality game”, which should mean it blends elements of virtual and augmented reality, Project Hail Mary: Journey Among The Stars has you step into the role of Ryland Grace, Ryan Gosling’s character from the movie.

Taking place at a “pivotal, untold moment in the Hail Mary mission,” you are tasked with solving a problem onboard the spacecraft by diagnosing the problem, improvising the fix, and “pushing the limits of science and engineering”.
Fans of the film will also be pleased to know that Rocky, the alien intelligence at the emotional core of the film, will also be appearing in the game as a side character.
As Maze Theory describes, the bond with Rocky is something “You build yourself, through cooperation, problem-solving, and evolving trust”.
“Since creating Project Hail Mary a few years ago, fans have been waiting for more. This is the first step outside of what happens in the book and movie, something you can only experience in mixed reality,” says Weir about the new game.
Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars will launch later this year “across major mixed reality and VR platforms”, with further details being announced in the coming months.
Based on the 2021 book by Weir, Project Hail Mary stars Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace, a scientist and middle-school teacher who awakens on an interstellar spacecraft with no memory of how he came to be there, and is tasked with a very important mission.
