In case you forgot, 12 November last year marked our very first Disney+ Day, which, for the average fan, basically just meant we were hit with a whole slew of announcements and news. For a start, at the time, we got our first looks at Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel and Secret Wars, as well as the announcement of everyone’s favourite medical professional marshmallow robot, Baymax, getting his own original series, along with many other things.

One of those many other things was Prey - a fifth instalment in the Predator franchise, starring Native American actress Amber Midthunder (Legion and Roswell, New Mexico), in the lead role. Now, we’ve just got our first look at the film, and it’s looking... promising? Admittedly, it’s all rather vague, but it’ll almost certainly be better than The Predator, anyway. Just, judge for yourself, eh?

Take a look at the first trailer for Prey right here.

“Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, Prey is the story of a young woman, Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior. She has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people,” the official synopsis reads. “The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.”

Dan Trachtenberg (The Boys, 10 Cloverfield Lane) is directing the movie, and John Davis (literally all of the previous Predator films) is the producer. Jhane Myers (Monsters of God), Lawrence Gordon (Watchmen), Marty Ewing (It: Chapter Two), James E. Thomas, John C. Thomas and Marc Toberoff (Fantasy Island) are the executive producers.

“The filmmakers were committed to creating a film that provides an accurate portrayal of the Comanche and brings a level of authenticity that rings true to its Indigenous peoples,” the trailer’s video description reads. “Myers, an acclaimed filmmaker, Sundance Fellow and member of the Comanche nation herself, is known for her attention and dedication to films surrounding the Comanche and Blackfeet nations and her passion for honouring the legacies of the Native communities. As a result, the film features a cast comprised almost entirely of Native and First Nation’s talent.”

Prey is coming to Hulu on August 5 in the US, with UK streaming looking like it'll be on Disney+'s Star channel.
