Pokémon Pokopia’s latest free download is already disappointing players, for all the right reasons.
Compared to previous games, Pokémon Pokopia has been a breath of fresh air, putting a bold and brilliant spin on a franchise that’s long been stuck in a predictable formula.
Players have been hard at work restoring the Kanto region, discovering what happened to its human residents, and putting together a thriving community that drifting Pokémon can settle down in.
At the time of writing there are seemingly no plans for notable DLC expansions but the game will be supported by free in-game events.

Mystery Gifts are also present as they are in the mainline games, offering freebies to players in the form of resources and decorations for their Pokopia paradise.
The latest freebie however has rubbed players the wrong way, with many feeling quite insulted that it would be offered as a freebie in the first place.
From now until 7 October 2026 Pokopia players can redeem an online code to get a Chansey Plant, a decorative shrub depicting the lovable ‘mon of the same name.
Gamers aren't exactly jumping for joy at this giveaway though as the plant itself is not a rare commodity, as it’s already available in the game and not difficult to get by any means.
The recipe can be found in rippling pools of water, and once acquired all you need to build it are some sticks and leaves. It’s not exactly a herculean task.

Due to this players are already mocking the giveaway online just hours after it was announced, pointing out the absurdity of being given such a common item as a free gift.
“That is 2 sturdy sticks and leaves. Why do we need it as a gift LMAO, like thank you, I guess?” said one player.
Others pointed out a frankly concerning trend that’s emerging with these freebies, as the Chansey Plant is apparently the second plant that was distributed as a Mystery Gift, “what's the deal with that?” asks players.
There was a similar amount of uproar over Pokémon Pokopia’s preorder bonus, which was also another plant.
These giveaways would probably land a lot better if the distributed item was something you can’t normally acquire in-game, or at least something that’s a pain to find yourself.
Hopefully the developers up their game when the next Mystery Gift event is decided.
