The Pokémon franchise has changed a lot over the years, and if you compare what it is now to what it was when Pokémon Red & Blue came out, it’s damn near unrecognisable.
We went from 150 Pokémon to over 1,000 in what feels like the blink of an eye, and while it’s been tricky for new games like Pokémon Legends: Z-A to include all those ‘mon, it’s nice that we have so many options.
But we all know who the favourites are: Pikachu, Eevee, Mimikyu ... yet out of those hundreds of choices, who’s the least popular ‘mon of all?

YouTuber Thomas Game Docs has the answer in a video that put that very question to fans. They collected over 1.6 million votes from fans to determine where every Pokémon lies in terms of popularity, and it yielded some interesting results.
The most popular ‘mon was Umbreon, a great choice and one I’m particularly fond of as well, but the least popular was pretty surprising, mainly because I’d forgotten it even existed…
The least popular ‘mon is Rellor, introduced in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet and based on a real-life dung beetle. That’s right, the least popular Pokémon is a dung beetle, which makes sense.
It feels kind of harsh but we need to be honest, it deserves the spot, as there’s nothing very impressive about Rellor and I’d be surprised to see it featured on someone’s team, even Bug-Type enthusiasts.

No shade to the little thing though; I’m sure there’s a Pokémon fan out there somewhere that hails Rellor as the best in the franchise, either out of pity or genuine admiration.
Do check out the full video from Thomas Game Docs though; it’s an interesting list and a lot of time went into collecting the data needed to rank them all.
