Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire fans can play an incredible remake of the Gen-3 titles right now, for free.
My favourite Pokémon generation may be Gen IV thanks to Pokémon Platinum but Gen III is a pretty close second. Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire as well as Pokémon Emerald go hard, and they’re dying for a proper remake.
Fortunately that's where Pokémon Gamma Emerald comes in, a gorgeous fan-made remake of the original game that doesn’t get rid of the pixel-art.

Created by UndreamedPanic the remake gives the game that HD-2D artstyle that Pokémon games should be made with, and the best part is you can try it out for yourself right now.
A free demo can be played in the browser and while the creator has warned it’s not a finished product just yet.
They said: “Sorry if you guys are experiencing bugs in this demo, it IS a public beta at this point and there WILL be bugs, once reported and found the full game will not have those bugs! SO please expect them and don't assume this is a final draft or final polished professional product!”
Regardless, the feedback has been pretty good so far, like one player who said: “friends and I started playing it together over discord. Two of us already got the special Pikachu! I can tell once this game is finished it is going to be phenomenal! The game is so gorgeous and the animations and everything else are so well done!”

It does look remarkable, and it’s exactly the kind of thing you’d hope to see from an actual remake by The Pokémon Company, not whatever Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl were…
Hopefully future remakes have a bit more sauce to them, because so far taking a beloved game and ruining it with bad textures and 3D models…
