You can now find Pokémon Gamma Emerald in the wild, and so far, gamers are loving it, just as expected.
In case you’ve been living under a rock, Pokémon Emerald is one of the most popular titles in the series, which is why we’re glad to hear it might be getting ported to the Nintendo Switch/Nintendo Switch 2 later this year.
Supporting this theory are the recently re-released Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen getting official Pokémon Home support at the cost of discontinuing a Nintendo 3DS feature.
Aside from being one of the best Pokémon games going, Pokémon Emerald is the base for many ROMhacks, with each one usually being crazier than the last.

Pokémon Gamma Emerald is the definitive fan-made remake you’ve all waited for
After releasing a demo quite some time ago, creator UndreamedPanic has finally launched Pokémon Gamma Emerald into early access, and it’s a sight to behold.
While the demo told a unique story set on a new island between the Hoenn and Sinnoh regions, the early-access launch is a partially complete remake of Pokémon Emerald with HD-2D visuals.

The HD-2D style has been something Pokémon fans have been eager to see implemented in the official games, though Pokémon Winds and Waves will be another fully-3D title. However, with it being exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, it’s boasting graphical fidelity unlike anything we’ve seen from the series so far.
Also included in Pokémon Gamma Emerald are ‘mon that’ll follow you without having to be in the Pokéball, a day and night cycle, modernised battles, and trainers you can rematch.
Given its early-access nature, the remake isn’t finished yet, with more areas and features set to be added as development continues.
You can download Pokémon Gamma Emerald for free online, but in order to play it, you’ll need a legally obtained ROM for the OG Pokémon Emerald.
What are Pokémon fans saying about Pokémon Gamma Emerald?
So far, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. The fan-made game has a few teething problems to sort out, but many are treating it like an excellent starting point.
BladedShard9 replied to UndreamedPanic’s X post saying “Agh! Hit me right in the nostalgia with that opening. This looks SOO amazing!”
“So far, game is GREAT! GameFreak should just hire you at this point” added deddTV. As good as that would be, the more likely outcome is a cease and desist letter in this case…
One last comment from VampireQueenPsy said: “Thank you this game is beautiful I really appreciate all the hard work you've put into this.”
As for what’s next for Pokémon Gamma Emerald, UndreamedPanic has said more Pokémon are set to be added, in-game areas past Mauville to be completed, and some localisation.
