Earlier this year we saw Game Freak become the victim of a series of leaks which meant heaps of information about the much-loved Pokémon flooded onto the internet.

One such leak included the news that one beloved Pokémon was set to receive an eighth evolution but plans were ultimately scrapped due to its likeness to a fan-made idea.

Check out the trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet below!

If plans had gone ahead, however, it would have seen Eevee receive another “Eeveelution” which would turn them into a Flying-type.

The news was leaked online back in October and screenshots of the files were shared to places such as r/PokeLeaks.

One post includes a screenshot of the file taking back to 2014. It is here we see that a “Flying Eevee” is “on hold after being told that the design was similar to a design created by a fan, it was decided that the design costs would be very high.

If there is a game where Flying Eevee is the main character, or if there is high value in the game, then it is not worth the high cost”.

Considering it has been over ten years since Flying Eevee was put “on hold”, we can safely assume that Game Freak decided not to risk it.

If it had happened, they would have been introduced during Gen 7’s Pokémon Sun and Moon.

Fans have long awaited Eevee’s next evolution so hearing the news that the idea was ultimately scrapped has been disappointing to say the least.

“So they do remove designs if they're too similar to Fakemon. Woah. Who knows how many we lost because of it”, the top comment from the Reddit thread reads.

Another said: “I just fell to my knees, I've always wanted a flying Eevee”.

It seems unlikely that this variation of Flying Eevee will be seen in future Pokémon entries but let us hope that their next evolution is equally as epic.
