Pokémon fans can now enjoy a brand new official game that has been made available for free.
Pokémon Winds and Waves is not due to come out until next year, but that hasn’t stopped The Pokémon Company from releasing a bunch of new games to tide us over in the meantime.
Between updates to free games like Pokémon Go and Pokémon Unite, as well as the recent DLC reveal for Pokémon Pokopia, there’s a lot of fun content cooking for the series while we wait for Gen 10 to release.
The latest release from The Pokémon Company has now added to the wide range of Pokémon-related content for fans to enjoy, with a new release of a beloved 2026 free Nintendo Switch game.

Pokémon Champions has now launched on mobile platforms such as Google Play and the iOS App Store.
Pokémon Champions is a “free-to-start” game. You can technically play a decent-sized chunk of content for free, but you’ll need to pay specific amounts if you want to access more content outside of the initial offerings.
The essential idea behind the game is for you to enjoy doing Pokémon battles on your handheld devices, such as a mobile phone, tablet, or Nintendo Switch.
In it, you battle Pokémon from other trainers from across the world, with ranked battles for more serious matches, and casual battles for a more easygoing experience. You also have the option of battling against family and friends in private battles.

The Pokémon Company is adamant that Pokémon Champions is a decent entry to the series, even if you’ve never played a Pokémon game before.
You can also link to Pokémon Home to team up with certain Pokémon you’ve previously befriended.
Pokémon Champions was originally released in April 2026, and the reception was rather mixed at the time. Fans were disappointed by the lack of content, as well as some aggressive monetisation tactics, which see multiple Pokémon being sold for large sums of money.
Meanwhile, Pokémon Gen 10 will kick off in 2027 with the release of Pokémon Winds and Waves, which was revealed earlier this year.
Set in a tropical archipelago region of the Pokémon universe, the game will introduce the new starters Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua, as selectable pokémon.
There’s no set release date for Pokémon Winds and Waves yet, but it’s expected to launch sometime in 2027. Expect Gen 10 to also feature updates for games like Pokémon Go and Pokémon Unite, as well as Pokémon Champions.
