PlayStation's new free game is 'GOTY so far’, fans agree

PlayStation Plus subscribers are loving Tchia - the open-world indie adventure game which was added to Extra tier last week.

In case you missed it, last week, PlayStation Plus got a brand new day-one release, and players are in agreement that it’s a genuinely fantastic time.

Tchia is a gorgeous open-world adventure which follows the journey of a young girl, who sets out on a mission across an archipelago inspired by New Caledonia in order to rescue her kidnapped father. In a month where the PS Plus Essential-tier offerings include Battlefield 2042 and an action-RPG which has left many players “heavily disappointed”, Tchia is a gem that might be worth upgrading to Extra tier for if you haven’t already.

Take a look at the trailer for Tchia below.

“Tchia is my indie GOTY so far,” Reddit user Ivaylo_87 wrote. “What an awesome game. It just fills me with joy and positive energy. Everything feels so heartwarming, you can tell the devs put all their love into it. It also keeps surprising me with cool gameplay stuff and story moments. I could write a mini review gushing about it, but it's super late and I'm working in a few hours. I'll only say that everyone should at least try it. The music is freaking magical.”

Others completely agree: “Music is ace and so are [the] visuals. Humour took me by surprise. Nice to see a game so different,” agreed stingchimp. “I was genuinely surprised by this one. It is such a pleasant experience, and I had my three year old rolling on the floor as I launched bananas across the map or used the bird to poop on everything I could,” commented awesomsaucness. “I knew this was going to be a sleeper hit the second I saw it teased last year. And it's lived up to the expectations I had. Love the opening tidbit from the developers, too. So much heart,” replied onesecretis2.

GAMINGbible’s Kate Harrold gave Tchia a nine out of 10 in her review. She wrote: “Tchia is not just a love letter to New Caledonia, it’s a love letter to life - celebrating all that is good in the world. From music to nature to spending time with those we love, Tchia demands very little of you - and I mean that in the best way. It simply asks you to be present and to embrace the experience ahead - one that’ll bring you equal heaps of joy and relaxation.”

Since Tchia is available via the Extra-tier PS Plus catalogue, it’s not going to be disappearing any time soon, but be sure to give it a go when you can.
