There's been loads of rumours recently about a return to the Silent Hill series, ranging from Konami looking at a new entry to Hideo Kojima hinting wildly that he has some sort of Silent Hill project up his sleeve. And while both of those seem like they could be viable, it's probably wise not to get your hopes up too much until there's some sort of official announcement on the subject.
However! A supposedly anonymous Konami employee is said to have posted on 4chan back in January, saying that Sony is looking to acquire both the Silent Hill and Metal Gear franchises from Konami, as well as Castlevania. At the time, it wasn't given much credit but (according to Gamerant) it seems that a lot of the details in that post now tie in with the subsequent info we've been receiving over the last couple of months.

For a start, the post says that Sony is reportedly looking at Hideo Kojima to help with a remake of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake and it also wants to "soft reboot the Silent Hill series", again with the help of Kojima. This certainly seems to tie in with the rumours of a Silent Hills revival that we reported a few days ago, which includes details that Sony is currently "serving in some kind of mediation role" between Kojima and Konami.
If true, Kojima would be working on the Silent Hill reboot with Silent Hill and Siren creator Keiichiro Toyama and Ikumi Nakamura, the lead concept artist for The Evil Within series.
And for the Castlevania fans out there, the post suggests that Sony is planning a "full reboot" with the help of the series' veterans, Koji Igarashi and Shutari Iida. The game would reportedly receive a "Bloodborne-style overhaul" and would be developed by Sony Japan.

In January we heard that Masahiro Ito - Silent Hill 2's art director - was working on a mysterious new project that he hopes "wouldn't be cancelled". This was followed up by the rumours that multiple Silent Hill games were in the works, including a "soft reboot". And then in February, Konami confirmed that it's looking into a new way to deliver a new Silent Hill entry and Hideo Kojima has been hinting since last year that he has some sort of Silent Hill game in the works at his own studio, Kojima Productions.
So, while there's nothing concrete to report, it is looking more and more likely that not only will we be getting a new Silent Hill game of some sort, we might see remakes of the first two Metal Gear games as well as a Castlevania reboot. And judging by the success of the recent Resident Evil 2 Remake - not to mention the anticipation for the upcoming Resident Evil 3 - it's not hard to imagine why.
