PlayStation Set To Increase Focus On PC Gaming

The move follows successful ports of PlayStation exclusives including Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War.

Whatever your console preference is, you can’t deny that PlayStation has some top-tier exclusives, am I right? From Marvel’s Spider-Man to The Last of Us, PlayStation has nurtured some incredible franchises that I’d go as far as saying I’m sure PC and Xbox players would love to experience for themselves. Well, change may be on the way for PC gamers - sorry Xbox.

PlayStation has been throwing bombshells our way recently. In case you’ve been living under a rock, there’s the overhauled PlayStation Plus system which is set to launch soon - which we now have release dates for. There are also plans to include adverts inside some PlayStation games, which hasn’t gone down as well. Next up, PlayStation looks set to increase its PC gaming output.

Take a look at our breakdown of the God of War PC port below.

A recent job listing from PlayStation indicates that the company is hiring a senior director of PC planning and strategy. The role focuses on optimising “PC sales growth,” whilst “identifying future sectors and partnerships for commercial growth” within the PC gaming sector.

PlayStation began experimenting with PC ports a few years ago - first with the release of Horizon Zero Dawn, and more recently with God of War and the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection. Each project appeared to go down extremely well with players, and the Steam ports allow PlayStation to compete more directly with Microsoft so it’s a win win.

I’m sure there’s a sneakier plan at play here. In sharing some of their most iconic exclusives with PC gamers, PlayStation are likely trying to lure fans over to its consoles for the release of future sequels.

Exhibit A: If you’ve played Horizon Zero Dawn on PC, you may just grab a PlayStation to experience Horizon Forbidden West. Exhibit B: Those who loved this year’s PC port of God of War have plenty of time to grab a console ahead of God of War: Ragnarok, so I wouldn’t imagine that PlayStation will be letting go of its enviable roster of exclusives too readily. What they do look set to do though, is heavily increase their PC gamer bait.
