The PlayStation Plus subscription service is full of absolute gems and one under-appreciated game has been hailed as a ‘masterpiece’ by subscribers.

The game in question is Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix. It feels strange that we’d consider Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy to be under-appreciated because it was reviewed positively, but it caused very little fanfare in the grand scheme of things. On Metacritic, the game scored a very respectable low to mid-80s.

Take a look at it in action below.

Furthermore, it was also nominated and even won a few awards, including Best Narrative at The Game Awards 2021. However, disappointing launch sales deemed Square Enix to label the game as falling below expectations. In Square Enix’s Q3 financial report for 2022/23, company director Yosuke Matsuda said: “Despite strong reviews, the game’s sales on launch undershot our initial expectations.”

That being said, once Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy arrived on Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus, it reportedly reached the home of over eight million gamers. Regardless, it is nice to see this fantastic game getting some added love from the gaming community. “Please do yourself a favour and play Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. It's such a sweet game and it's on PS Plus!” posted by Redditor AdmirableOx.

Fellow Reddit users were in agreement and urged gamers to experience this beloved action-adventure based on the Marvel comics. “Genuinely a masterpiece. I bought it about a year ago, and it's SO damn good. I honestly prefer these versions of the characters over the movies,” agreed Wboy2006.

It seems the joyous promotion of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is working, as reflected by DoserBikerGypsy, who said: “Missed this when it was on Game Pass and wasn’t sure what I wanted to jump into after my current single-player game wraps up. Started downloading from my phone app just now.”

In our review of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, we said it’s: “a really enjoyable experience that I would recommend to a wide audience: for fans of all things Marvel, action games, and stories that dare to go that step further in relating a compelling fantasy to hugely relevant real-world matters.”
