It's become increasingly clear in recent months that PlayStation Plus is completely failing to meet the expectations of subscribers. For the last several months, users of the online service have become more and more disappointed with the monthly free games, with many calling for drastic change.
As Xbox Game Pass continues to go from strength to strength, PS Plus subscribers have wondered if Sony will step up and attempt to match Microsoft's killer subscription service. Fans have suggested a number of ways in which PS Plus could be improved, included a merge with PlayStation Now and its vast library of games that can be streamed and/or downloaded.
Fortunately for those of you who feel PS Plus could be improved, it sounds as if Sony is indeed planning a drastic overhaul of the service in an attempt to rival Xbox Game Pass. According to a new report, the company intends to combine PS Plus and PS Now, as well as finally add a handful of classic original PlayStation and PlayStation 2 titles.

Bloomberg's Jason Schreier claims that this new service, codenamed Spartacus, will launch Spring 2022 and will include both "modern and classic" games. It will be available as a paid monthly service for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 users.
Schreier adds that once PS Plus and PS Now have been merged, the Plus name will be kept as Now is quietly swept away. The reason? Now simply hasn't had anywhere near the impact Sony might have been hoping for.
Much like Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, the new PlayStation subscription service will be broken into tiers. The first tier might resemble the PS Plus service as we currently know it, for example, while the second tier would add more PS Now games. A third tier, meanwhile, would add PS1, PS2, and even PSP games - as well as a few "extended demos". Just be aware that plans for the service are not yet final, and this could all change.
Hopefully Sony has something more on this to share with us soon. PlayStation Plus subscribers are definitely starting to lose the faith, and this could be the boost they need.
