PlayStation Plus's latest free game is so good 'nothing has come close since’

PlayStation Plus subscribers have been full of praise for one of the subscription service's latest freebies - The Talos Principle.

If you’ve not been paying for PlayStation Plus in a while, this is a really great time to come back to it. Although admittedly the service has had some ups and downs this year in terms of its monthly freebies, subscribers are in for some real treats this month.

From tomorrow (4 July), subscribers can claim Endling - Extinction is Forever, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and Alan Wake Remastered totally free - once claimed, they’re free to keep and play at any time as long as you still have an active subscription. With over 100 hours of gameplay (for completionists, that is), they’re definitely going to keep everyone busy.

Take a look at the trailer for Alan Wake Remastered below.

Over on Reddit though, PlayStation Plus users have been full of praise for one of June’s Extra-tier freebies, which you might have overlooked. User zedemer took to the r/PlayStationPlus subreddit with a plea - don’t sleep on The Talos Principle. The first-person puzzle game originally released back in 2014, and as per its synopsis on the PlayStation Store, players must take on an “existential journey as a sentient artificial intelligence placed in a simulation of humanity’s greatest ruins, linked through an arcane cathedral”. You can’t tell me that doesn’t sound interesting.

“I played the game back in the day on PC and remembered I had a good time, but forgot most of the gameplay save [for the fact] that it had puzzles. Gotta say that so many years later, the game still amazed me [by] how good it was,” zedemer wrote. “Majority of puzzles are very well designed and if you're a glutton for (puzzles and secrets and) punishment you also have puzzles within those puzzle areas to gather stars - a harder type of collectible. Even the story, while pretty minimalistic and mostly told through logs and voice recordings, is intriguing.”

Others agree that it’s well worth a go: “Talos is the GOAT puzzle game [in my opinion], nothing came close ever since. I definitely recommend it,” Possible_Cancel101 replied. “It's in my top ten [of] all time. It's just exactly the things I like. Can't wait for the sequel,” H3000 commented.

A number of games are leaving the Extra-tier game library this month, including some super popular titles like Stray and BioShock Remastered, so be sure to have a browse and figure out what you want to play before it's too late.
