EA Has Nothing To Do With 'Knights Of The Old Republic Remake'

Last week, gamers were over the moon with the announcement that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is getting a remake for the PlayStation 5. Yet, it looks like BioWare and Electronic Arts, the team behind the original game, are not involved in the development of the new version.

"Nearly 20 years after it first debuted, the original KOTOR is still one of the most beloved games of all time," said lead producer Ryan Treadwell in a post to the PlayStation Blog. "And even as Star Wars travels to new horizons, we know the community is as eager as ever to return to this iconic era of storytelling and action."

It's a very good time to be a Star Wars buff. Not only is there the Knights of the Old Republic remake, a new game is in the works with Ubisoft, a The Mandalorian game is apparently in the early stages of production, and Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is coming next year.

But, if you were wondering if anyone from the original team is on board the remake, there's a peculiar answer to that question. Geoff Keighley asked BioWare and Electronic Arts if the two companies were collaborating with Aspyr to deliver the new game to new players. Cue this weirdly windy reply that told Geoff that Electronic Arts loves Star Wars a lot:

That's... nice. Well, if you're worried that the fact that the remake is being developed "from the ground up with the latest tech" might overlook what transformed it into a classic, I wouldn't lose sleep over this.

"Many of us previously worked at BioWare, with credits going back to the original KOTOR," continued Treadwell. "To further bolster that, we've added some amazing developers from games like Demon's Souls Remake and Ghost of Tsushima. And our narrative team is fantastic, with years of storytelling experience across Star Wars games and comics." That sounds like they're in good stead to me.
