Like it or not, Death Stranding is weeks away from launching on PS4, and it looks like Hideo Kojima is back at it again with the celebrity cameos. I'm starting to get the unshakable impression that it's less of a game and more of an exercise in Kojima showing us how many famous people he knows so, yeah, I can't wait to play it.
None other than American talkshow extraordinaire Conan O'Brien (not to be confused with the famous barbarian) is the latest face to find itself scanned into Death Stranding, joining the likes of Norman Reedus, Guillermo del Toro, Mads Mikkelsen, and Geoff Keighley. A star-studded lineup to rival The Avengers, I'm sure you'll agree.
This unlikely collaboration came about when Conan visited Kojima Productions and boldly attempted to make sense of the Metal Gear creator's upcoming game. Obviously, Kojima asked Conan if he wanted to be scanned into Death Stranding to appear as an NPC because sure, why not?

According to Kojima himself, we can find Conan in the game as a character called The Wondering MC, who'll give you a special Sea Otter Suit that makes swimming easier "when you get connected with him". You can see Conan's visit to the studio below. Really drink it in.
During his visit to Kojima's Tokyo HQ, Conan was able to explore the offices, and peruse his toy collection. Kojima has a doll of himself by the way, because of course he does.
Conan also sat down with Kojima to watch the Death Stranding trailer that ends with the baby doing that weird thumbs up thing from inside what looks like a womb, prompting the presenter to ask, not unreasonably, "what is wrong with you?"

Death Stranding releases on November 8, with review embargoes lifting one week before launch. I haven't played it and will be approaching it with an open mind, of course, but I'm willing to bet that this ends up being a game that splits critics and gamers down the middle.
Doubtless, some will hail it as a work of genius while others blast it as a self-indulgent mess. At least if it is a self-indulgent mess, it'll be a self-indulgent mess that has a cameo from Conan O'Brien.
