'Ghost Of Tsushima' Has Been Officially Rated, And It Sounds Super Violent

Not for the faint-hearted.

News has been pretty scarce in regards to Sucker Punch Productions' upcoming game, Ghost of Tsushima. But as the (more-than-likely) release date of June 26 draws closer, the game has now been rated by the Australian rating board as Mature MA15+ - which specifically states a "strong impact" on both violence and the themes contained within the game (thanks, Gamerant).

The PlayStation 4 exclusive has yet to appear on either the PEGI and ERSB rating sites, but if the 13th century Feudal Japan time period of the game is anything to go by, it's set to be a pretty bloodthirsty affair. If you've yet to check out the story trailer, you can take a peek at it below - head here for a direct link to the video.

Here's the blurb from the official site:

"The year is 1274. Samurai warriors are the legendary defenders of Japan - until the fearsome Mongol Empire invades the island of Tsushima, wreaking havoc and conquering the local population. As one of the last surviving samurai, you rise from the ashes to fight back. But honourable tactics won't lead you to victory. You must move beyond your samurai traditions to forge a new way of fighting - the way of the Ghost - as you wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Japan."

Just last week we reported on the possibility that Ghost of Tsushima may be delayed, thanks to a leak from PlayStation Canada. This may well be a mistake on their part though, as both the official site and the Twitter account still have June 26 listed as the release date.

Ghost of Tsushima was first announced back in 2017, and Sucker Punch creative director Nate Fox followed up with more information, prior to the in-depth look we were treated to during Sony's E3 2018 showcase.

"You explore what it is to be a samurai inside of this enormous landscape of medieval Japan," said Fox. The game will be a fully open-world experience which he believes is important for the flow of the game, as it gives "authority and power to the player. We didn't want to walk away from that. We think it's integral to modern gaming that players are in charge."

Ghost of Tsushima is set for release on PlayStation 4 on June 26.
