PlayStation Console War Victory Cemented, Xbox Position is Stark

It's over...

If there was any doubt whatsoever, PlayStation has put to bed the idea of the console wars being a competition any more, as seen during this year’s Black Friday sales.

For several years PlayStation and Xbox have been clashing to be the best console provider in the industry, yet Sony’s offering has always had the edge.

A lot of it comes down to the companies themselves, as Sony being a Japanese company means it’s always a big success in Japan, as is Nintendo.

Throughout the rest of the world though Xbox performs better but this year the Black Friday deals have been telling of which console consumers prefer; the PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Series X/S.

Many years after it first released the PlayStation 5 is still selling out, with 2025’s Black Friday deals wiping stock clean as gamers finally upgrade to the new-gen. It’s a good time to do so as well, especially if you're a PlayStation 4 owner who’s subscribed to PlayStation Plus…

We’re talking specifically about the PlayStation 5 here by the way, not the PlayStation 5 Pro though that’s about to go on sale too as part of Cyber Monday on Amazon.

It’ll be interesting to see how the more powerful, but more expensive, console performs.

Microsoft on the other hand has offered little to no impressive deals, meaning there’s still a healthy stock of Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles out there if you’re after one.

It isn’t much of a surprise either as earlier this year it was confirmed the Xbox Series X/S was to receive a price increase, something that rattled a lot of gamers.

Xbox’s Worst Year To Date?

As I said before Xbox has always struggled against PlayStation, as while it has some bangers it’s never quite lived-up to PlayStation’s exclusive game library.

2025 in particular has been a severe blow to the company though, as so far it’s raised the price of its hardware, given up a bunch of its exclusives to other platforms, and raised the price of Xbox Game Pass, another decision that landed it in hot water with consumers.

All of this added together has made for a difficult year, but the company is hopeful that it can turn things around with its next-gen console, which sounds like a hybrid between an Xbox and PC that’ll support Steam.

One thing is certain though, PlayStation has definitely won the console war, though it’ll soon be facing a new challenger from Valve…
