Which is the better console? Is it the PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Series X? Well, although the Xbox Series X appears better on paper, it seems as though the PlayStation 5 just pips it to the post. Now one expert explains how this has happened.

Check out the winning console in the trailer below!

Whether you have the Xbox Series X or the PlayStation 5 or both, an argument can be had for each current-gen console. The Xbox offers some incredible offers thanks to its Xbox Game Pass subscription service and the PlayStation has been the home to many award-winning exclusives.

However, when it comes down to hardware, the PlayStation 5 has an edge over the Xbox Series X despite the latter technically being a more powerful unit.

Now thanks to Digital Foundry's Richard Leadbetter, we have an idea why.

In terms of technical specifications, the Xbox Series X is leagues ahead of the PlayStation 5 mainly thanks to its impressive GPU and memory bandwidth.

However, despite the Series X having a bigger GPU, it appears as though the PlayStation 5 is more efficient at utilising hardware and makes better use of its slightly smaller GPU. Additionally, the PlayStation’s faster clock speed makes its GPU run a lot faster.

With more modern games better suiting a smaller yet faster GPU, this makes the PlayStation 5 perform a lot better than its Xbox counterpart. Additionally, its API and low level graphics driver also make it more efficient.

Quite literally, the PS5 works smarter, not harder making it a cut above the Xbox Series X despite the latter technically being the more powerful of the two.

However, what remains to be seen is how the upcoming rumoured PlayStation 5 Pro stands up against its competition.
