In this day and age, it’s always nice to claim some freebies whenever we can, especially when it comes to video games that are on our wishlist.

Subscription services such as PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass are great ways to play video games on a budget, as they can each often work out to be cheaper for a single month than it is to purchase a brand-new, full-price AAA game.

However, other services won't even cost you a single penny from the blue and green brands, namely PlayStation Stars and Microsoft Rewards which give you easy points that can be spent on video games, DLC or even accessories.

In the case of Microsoft Rewards, you can earn points by simply using the Edge web browser when searching for everyday things, it’s as easy as that.

What’s more, if you subscribe to Xbox Game Pass, you can claim additional points by simply playing games in its library as well as earning in-game achievements, heck, you even earn points by simply visiting the Xbox mobile app.

Sadly, Microsoft Rewards isn't as rewarding as it used to be, compared to a year or so ago, points gifted don't seem to be as generous as they once were and perhaps the same can be said for PlayStation Stars.

As reported by TrueAchievements.com, Microsoft has been gradually nerfing its rewards scheme and now gamers on Reddit are growing increasingly concerned.

“Microsoft Rewards somehow gets even worse for Xbox users,” declared Redditor Turbostrider27.

“It’s trash now. It used to take a couple of minutes and now it barely works. They know exactly what they are doing,” exclaimed canadian190 with F0REM4N asking: “I'm curious as to what's the gain in that scenario as opposed to just discontinuing the service?”

“Because the negative PR from "We're closing it down to save us money" is a lot worse than "We're closing it down due to low use" speculated shadowglint.

To be fair, Microsoft Rewards is still a decent system which can result in you claiming loads of fantastic freebies but it might be an idea to spend whatever points you have left, just in case Microsoft ends the service for good.
