Why, Xbox, why?

A recent console change introduced by Xbox is greatly annoying fans, and once you see what it is it’s not hard to understand why.

Xbox isn’t exactly unfamiliar with controversy, with its ability to polarise its target audience set to continue.

As shared by senior Verge editor Tom Warren on Twitter, Xbox has started to introduce full page ads for EA Sports FC 25 when users start up their console.

How do you feel about EA Sports FC 25 after seeing all these ads?

What was once assigned to live TV only has made its way onto all streaming platforms and now video games as well.

It’s an ugly development gamers want to see the back of.

“Not a fan of these ads on boot-up,” said @SecretAgentHam in response to the post shared.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time a full page ad has appeared on Xbox consoles; when Modern Warfare III was released last year ads for it irked players as well.

“I paid $500 for an Xbox Series X not $500 for an ad Machine. This is absurd,” remarked @ninehalo369.

To which someone rushed in to defend this questionable change saying, “Is it? You can press B and it'll be gone. Doesn't even last one sec.”

Although this is true, people still don’t want to have an advertisement pushed onto them when there’s already ads for the game elsewhere.

The controversy isn’t even about the game advertised but rather that the ads exist at all, as demonstrated in this comment from @IM2WestCoast, “Lol. F**k that, I don't care what game it is that's annoying.”

With an Xbox Series X successor being teased, the fans frustrated by this quietly unveiled change will likely hope it won’t feature on the new hardware.

It likely will, but hope is all they have right now.
