Xbox Series X/S gamers hit with multiple free downloads, no subscription needed

Xbox Series X/S owners can now make use of some very snazzy new dynamic backgrounds.

There are two things I did not expect to wake up to this morning. The first is Taylor Swift announcing The Tortured Poet’s Department. Shoutout to my fellow fans who were clowning for Reputation (Taylor’s Version). The second, and more relevant topic, is Xbox’s switch to becoming a predominantly multi-platform supplier.

I’m sure you’ve seen the discourse storm brewing on social media. A Microsoft employee has allegedly leaked the upcoming strategy for the Xbox brand that would see the company step away from hardware and switch to multi-platform releases. This would reportedly include the release of Starfield on the PlayStation 5, possibly in addition to the upcoming Indiana Jones And The Great Circle. You can understand the messiness of the situation. On one hand, Xbox is struggling to land sales compared to competitors but on the other, would this new strategy not shoot them in the foot and render Xbox console’s obsolete? It’s a tricky one but it’s a question we don’t have to answer right now.

Take a look at Indiana Jones And The Great Circle in action below.

Allow me to temporarily distract you from the debacle - which is one I think will dominate chatter for weeks to come - by informing you of a couple of freebies you can grab now on both the Xbox Series X and S. It’s not as exciting as a new game but we’ll take it. One thing Xbox undeniably does better than any other console is dynamic backgrounds, and seven more are now available for you to use and enjoy.

Part of the ‘Xbox Celebrates’ series, each features Xbox branding albeit within vastly different designs. From psychedelic swirls to an almost cottagecore desert landscape, there’s a little bit of something for everyone. All the backgrounds are available now if you’re looking to add a new pop of colour to your homescreen.

If you are yearning for something a tad more exciting, Xbox Game Pass just gained one of the year’s highest-related releases which is well worth diving into.
