Xbox Series X quietly drops free download you can claim now

Ready to slaughter some zombies?

This is a pleasant surprise as we barrel into the weekend.

A Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster free demo has launched across the game’s various platforms.

Yes, that means Xbox Series X/S users can nab it on the Xbox/Microsoft Store.

It’s also available on PlayStation 5 via the PlayStation Store, and on PC via Steam.

The demo allows you to dive into the very start of the game, so it’s a great way to get a feel for its gameplay and decide whether it’s for you.

Of course, fans of the original Dead Rising are going to know what to expect, but I’m imagining that Capcom is hoping to lure some new fans in too.

While the demo does take place at the start of the game, there is a warning that “some aspects may differ from those of the full version”.

That’s hardly a dealbreaker.

What is mildly more annoying is that saved data from the demo will not carry over into the full release, so should you want to pick Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster up, you’ll have to start again.

Take a look at the game in action below.

“Dead Rising is back and it's looking better than ever! The original game has been given the full Deluxe Remaster treatment,” the synopsis teases.

“The Dead Rising series is known for its relentless zombie slaughtering action, where you have to fight for survival against hordes of zombies. This is the first game in the series, and it's been given a full graphical overhaul.”

“It's now also fully voiced, supports auto-saving, and has various other quality of life improvements for an even smoother gameplay experience,” it continues.

Want to know what we thought?

GAMINGbible’s Richard Lee Breslin awarded the game a score of eight, writing, “Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster still isn't without its flaws, yet it retains that gruesome, comical charm that only Frank West let loose in a zombie-infested shopping mall can provide. With the visual and gameplay improvements, there’s more than enough to encourage veteran fans to reinvest in this remaster while making those new feel welcome.”
