Xbox reportedly in talks to nab PlayStation's biggest game of 2024

Xbox gamers could soon be doing their part for democracy

In comparison to 2023, this year has been a little quieter in terms of major video game releases so far but one title that looks to be an early game of the year contender as the industry begins to heat up is Helldivers 2.

Created by developers Arrowhead Game Studios, Helldivers 2 has taken the video game industry by storm with PC and PlayStation 5 gamers all doing their part for democracy in this popular co-op shooter. Will Helldivers 2 claim all the game of the year dongs at the end of 2024? Only time will tell.

Check out the Helldivers 2 trailer below!

In our review of Helldivers 2, we said: “Playing Helldivers 2 almost makes you feel like you’re back in the golden age of online gaming, it’s pure, silly cooperative fun that offers a tailored experience for all kinds of players, whether you’re looking for something casual or your next big challenge.”

Unfortunately, as with the nature of console exclusives, a large chunk of the fanbase is missing out. Helldivers 2 is clearly a game that has been designed for the players which oddly seems like a rarity nowadays with major corporations wanting to make all of the money in the world with microtransactions inspired by the grind.

The sheer fun of Helldivers 2 is why Xbox gamers have formed a petition in the hope of seeing Helldivers 2 make its way onto the green brand and offering cross-play for all available platforms. The Helldivers 2 petition in question has so far garnered over 100,000 signatures and counting.

However, it seems that Xbox gamers may be getting their wish if recent rumours are to be believed. During a recent episode of The Xbox Era podcast, co-host Nick “Shpeshal” Baker claims that Sony is reportedly in discussions with Microsoft to bring Helldivers 2 to Xbox Series X/S.

Of course, we should take all unconfirmed rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. That being said, given the fact that previous Xbox exclusives such as the likes of Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush have recently been released on PlayStation, nothing is impossible.

If Helldivers 2 does come to Xbox Series X/S, it would be a big win for its community especially if it has cross-play support with all available platforms. Helldivers 2 is out now on PC and PlayStation 5.
