Xbox Game Pass subscribers praise free 'masterpiece' survival horror game

Xbox Game Pass subscribers praise free 'masterpiece' survival horror game

What's that signal?

Do you want a perfect horror game to play this Halloween? Well, Xbox Game Pass has one of the best recent survival horrors for free right now.

This indie delight is an atmospheric gem that can't be missed. Signalis was released to critical acclaim and to amazing feedback from players, and it's yours to play on Xbox through Game Pass. You play as an android in a far flung future onboard a spaceship that is slowly succumbing to danger.

Xbox Game Pass is amazing value for money.

I was really drawn into Signalis when I played. There's something very creepy about the atmosphere, it's reminiscent of Alien. Everything is dark and brooding, with glitches in the visuals and sound design that keep you on the edge of your seat.

You don't have to just take my word for it. Players are chatting about it over on Reddit constantly, with one user u/Narwhals_R_Us remarking, "Signalis was my personal game of the year last year. It immediately became one of my all-time favourite games before I even finished it." Another user u/Unclebanns calls Signalis "my top pick for [a] Halloween playlist" and describes it as an "unhinged horror" which seems like a wonderful description.

The Reddit thread is full of praise from so many different players: "It is an exceptional horror experience," as well as "The epitome of video games as art, but in the best way possible." One user wrote, "Give it a shot if you got Game Pass."

I can only agree. I played most of Signalis in bed, at night, on Steam Deck. It was a brilliant experience and was perfectly suited both handheld and playing on TV. The whole game is soaked in darkness with very few flashes of colour. The pixel graphics go a long way to showing you the horrors of the world, while still letting your brain fill in the blanks. When you add in creeping sounds and music and stressful game mechanics that force you to think outside the box, it's really a tremendous game.
