A new football (that’s soccer for you Americans) game is taking over, and it’s pulling in millions of players since its launch only a few days ago.

Rematch is a bit of a new spin on the sports genre, coming from the developers of Sifu, creating a more action-packed version of football, which has been dominating over on Xbox.

Since releasing a few days ago on Xbox Game Pass, Rematch has reportedly brought in over 3 million players, according to the game’s Twitter account.

It’s a far cry from jumpers for goalposts, as players control one player on a 5v5 team, played from a third-person perspective, rather than seen through a camera on the sidelines.

SloClap are tapping into major arcade energy here, with frenetic gameplay that balances fast-paced decision-making, with high levels of skill.

It’s simple to get into, and players are teaming up with friends and randoms online to score the winning goal.

In the Twitter post celebrating the player milestone, the team behind the game gave us a break-down of stats.

“For those keeping score, that's, 11.8M matches played, 55.6M goals scored, 33.5M assists, and 69.1M saves.”

They go on to say, “This is just the beginning. Thank you for being with us, in and out of the pitch!”

It’s safe to say the launch has been a huge success, in no part thanks to Xbox Game Pass, which allows players to jump in without putting down extra money.

Then, as soon as they fall for the game, they know they can keep playing as long as their subscription stays active.

Across social media, even non-football loving players are enjoying the game, as it makes the sport feel more approachable than ever.

One thing is on the lips of pretty much every player though, as this Twitter user says, “You guys need cross play immediately, the numbers would be even higher.”

SloClap has acknowledged the request and is hard at work bringing more players together.
