Xbox giving away free store credit for you to spend in end of year sale

A special end of year treat, from Microsoft to you

Microsoft has a special treat in store (pun intended) for some folks on Xbox today, but you’ll have to manually check to see if you’re one of the lucky few that’ve been graced with a free treat.

Thank you in advance to Fraser Gilbert over on Pure Xbox for spotting this one!

As part of Microsoft’s 2024 Xbox Countdown Sale, some users have noticed that they’ve received $5 gift cards in their inboxes. There’s probably a great xbox/inbox pun somewhere in there that’ll come to me in like three to four hours.

Now, there’s a few hitches to this freebie. First things first, you’ll have to make sure you check your “Message Requests” in your inbox to see if you’ve received the code.

You won’t get a notification and it won’t pop up in your inbox normally if you block messages from those other than your friends, so be extra certain a code isn’t hiding in your requests.

Secondly, this might only be available for those in the United States at the moment.

Last time this happened folks outside of America did eventually see codes pop up in their inboxes, so don’t fret. There’s still a good chance that folks in the rest of the world will get codes later on down the line.

Finally, and this is the biggest catch, it seems to be completely random as to who gets these codes.

The last time Microsoft gave out codes this way, there were dozens of posts from folks online wondering why they’d been missed out.

There doesn’t seem to be any real rhyme or reason to why these aren’t handed out to some people, so don’t take it personally if you don’t receive one.

We’ll keep you updated if these are confirmed to be available in other countries, so look out for any further posts if you’re outside of America!
