Up until now, Xbox gamers have been able to rack up points in exchange for free store credit.

However, a recent change with the Microsoft Rewards programme has seen loyalty points continue to drop dramatically.

As a result, many Xbox gamers have decided that it is just not worth taking part in anymore.

Reported back in December of last year, it was revealed that Microsoft Rewards would now feature a cooldown period.

This means that players will now only earn points for every three searches per fifteen minutes in the Microsoft Rewards app.

Perhaps in the effort to stop users spamming for free points, the cooldown was implemented but it seems as though that was not the only change.

Up until now, users have been able to play games, search the web, take part in daily trivia puzzles and more in order to earn points courtesy of Microsoft Rewards.

However, over the past year, the number of points earned has dropped dramatically despite Microsoft claiming it has no plans to terminate the service.

Points have dropped so dramatically that one user over on r/MicrosoftRewards recently posted two screenshots of their points earned in October 2023 compared to October 2024.

In October last year, they earned an impressive 24,578 points, whereas this year, it was a mere 5,649.

The Reddit thread continues to show examples of the dramatic changes in earnings over the course of the last year.

Not only that but multiple users have reported not receiving their points at all as well as streaks mysteriously being broken with no warning.

It seems as though the Microsoft Rewards programme is heading for failure, with many Xbox gamers refusing to use it at all after its dramatic changes.

However, with accumulated points being able to be transferred to free store credit, let us hope that Microsoft steps in with a few improvements over the next year.
