Xbox drops two AAA free games for all users, includes acclaimed Ubisoft RPG

'Tactics, ties, treason, and tees,' Xbox is hitting all four Ts of its checklist when serving up a freebie weekend to remember.

Xbox's turbulent era of retribution took a sour turn earlier this week, as Microsoft announced more layoffs and studio shutdowns, killing off a major AAA sequel.

Yet steps are being made to regain the favour of its community as Xbox has announced a major boost to the Halo series.

Now, it has released the latest 'Free Play Days' line-up, and it's jam-packed with four titles to make one of the biggest discounted weekends of its tenure.

For sports sim gamers, if you can be torn away from the 10-hour free EA FC 27 trial that is embedded into Game Pass via EA Play, Xbox is giving players a natural, peaceful transition to trade Mbappe for McIlroy.

The first of the Free Play Days line-up comes in the form of PGA Tour 2K25, usually priced at $40 - and it's completely free to enjoy with no Game Pass required.

With game modes like MyPLAYER (a familiar mode for NBA 2K fans), you can take on the golfing greats on the world's most iconic courses, launching an attack to win the coveted green jacket at the Masters.

The second title that's totally free for all Xbox users is beloved action RPG The Division 2, which comes as another one of Ubisoft's RPGs received a massive discount in the last week. Originally launched in 2019 and re-optimised for the Series S|X, The Division 2 ramps up the hype before a huge crossplay update and DLCs that are arriving in November. Its free trial this weekend is followed by a 90% off deal that could entice you to keep it in your library for when the updates follow in around six weeks' time.

Both of these games are free-to-play from now until the end of the day on Sunday, September 27 - and again, you don't need Game Pass.

Yet, if you are an Ultimate, Premium, or Essentials Game Pass member, you'll also get two more games to enjoy.

Game Pass users of all tiers can two bonus games to try

Rounding off the Free Play Days line-up, Game Pass users are also getting access to two animated titles that are deceptively brilliant.

At first sight, The Escapists looks like a Roblox spin-off that lends itself to the more adolescent gamers. However, that's far from the truth, as this double-header two-game collection is a hilarious and clever co-op escape room, where players will push their creative tools to the limit to escape from prison. It's less childlike, more Shawshank Redemption.

Young Suns is equally highly rated, giving Xbox's own Starfield a run for its money. Serving as a multiplayer player-narrative life sim set on Jupiter in the aftermath of a successful revolution against predatory corporations, players will "explore fantastical moonlets, converted stations, and derelict ruins in your very own spaceship with a crew of up to three friends".

"Discover and repair broken items for your own use or to donate to the common good. Decorate and customise your spaceship."

All four games will be available to enjoy until September 27.
