A game that can be described as The Last of Us meets Uncharted is an underrated gem that can be played on Xbox Game Pass right now.

Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass subscription service is full of fantastic games at our disposal from major first-party titles, third-party AAA big hitters and a plethora of indie darlings that may have flown under our radar.

Despite Xbox Game Pass seeing price hikes as high as 50% in some regions, there is still plenty of value with the service and one game in particular that subtly adds some value is the topic of this article.

In 2010, we were treated to Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, developed by Ninja Theory, the studio that brought us the likes of the underrated PS3 exclusive, Heavenly Sword, as well as more recently, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is loosely inspired by the 16th-century Chinese tale, Journey to the West. In the 2010 game, you play as Monkey, played by The Lord of the Rings star, Andy Serkis.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West Is a Fantastic Game!

“Follow a gripping, surprise-filled journey as two dissimilar characters form an uneasy partnership in order to survive through a perilous, post-apocalyptic America. 150 years in the future, war and destruction have left the world in ruins, with few humans remaining and nature having reclaimed the world,” reads the synopsis of Enslaved: Odyssey to the West.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West was one of those games that I knew of at the time of its release, but I was in no major rush to pick it up. However, when I ran out of things to play, and being a subscriber of the now-defunct LoveFilm, I rented the game as part of the service, and boy, was I surprised.

In short, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West was an unexpected treat, and as soon as I began playing that game, I could hardly put it down. It had fun combat, puzzles, exploration and a story that kept me hooked from start to finish.

What’s more, the fact that it starred Andy Serkis was a nice bonus. The performance of the supporting character, Trip (Lindsey Shaw), was also fantastic. And I’m far from alone with my appreciation for this game.

“Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is a hidden gem, and you should try it!” declared Redditor Fritolex. “I’m replaying it now after many years, and it’s still just as fun as it was the first time.”

They concluded: “From today’s perspective, it’s a perfect example of a hidden gem. And from what I’ve noticed, hardly anyone remembers this game, which is a massive shame. It’s absolutely my favourite game of the seventh console generation. Give it a chance!”

Gamers on Reddit Show Love for Enslaved: Odyssey to the West

“Andy Serkis did a fantastic job as Monkey. I absolutely loved this game; I played it when it was released. The DLC was very good as well,” replied CloudLXXXV.

“This game is amazing and deserves a remaster,” said MidninBR.

“Bonus: if you have the expansion ‘Piggsy’s Perfect 10’, you can play the entire game in stereoscopic 3D on Xbox 360,” revealed Nixon-seltz-unit4.

The only official way to play Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is on PC via Steam or with Xbox backwards compatibility, along with the aforementioned Game Pass subscription service. If you’ve never played it, what are you waiting for?
