Halo fans torn as new game footage surfaces online

This would have saved the game

Halo: Infinite was supposed to get a battle-royale mode similar to Fortnite and Apex: Legends, it was cancelled but details have now emerged on what it would have been like.

While I’d consider Halo: infinite to be leagues better than Halo 5: Guardians, especially in its art style and story, there were certainly still a few things missing to hold it back from the greatness of the Bungie days.

Take a look at Halo: Infinite’s launch trailer below

The game has since been updated over time, adding new modes, armour, weapons and more but this live-service model hasn’t done much to keep the playerbase active in the long-term, and now it seems many are ready for a new game to take its place.

Details on the next Halo game are few and far between, though to keep fans occupied in the meantime are details on a mode that could have changed everything for Halo: Infinite, a battle-royale mode.

Codenamed Tatanka, the mode would have seen players engage in PvP matches on Zeta Halo, where they’d be tasked with killing other players and securing objectives.

It would have tied into the game’s story mode in some capacity as well, presumably like how Fortnite’s map changes depending on the current storyline, like the recent Marvel collaboration.

Weapons and vehicles would have been brought to the player via Pelicans, like the Falcon from Halo: Reach, and downed players could be revived for another chance at the action.

It all sounds fantastic, and you can find a full video going over all the details of the mode on YouTube.

Presumably the battle-royale mode was cancelled due to either time constraints or the belief players wouldn’t vibe with it, and from the sounds of things reception would have been mixed if the mode had come to fruition.

Perhaps Halo 7 will take the idea and finish it, as dropping into battle in an ODST drop pod and going to war on a massive battlefield sounds like it’d be a perfect fit for the franchise if done well.
