It’s been revealed during the Xbox Showcase that the upcoming remake of 2001’s Halo: Combat Evolved will have three all-new missions, and we’ve finally got a confirmed release date.
Halo: Campaign Evolved was announced in 2025, and it will be a faithful remake of the beloved original Xbox launch title powered by Unreal Engine 5. However, it’s going to be more than just a faithful remake.
As well as having vastly improved graphics, performance and control options, Halo: Campaign Evolved will have three brand-new missions for the remake, told from the perspective of Sergeant Major Avery Junior Johnson, fighting alongside the Master Chief.
This certainly adds a new dimension to the remake and follows in the footsteps of other remakes like 2002’s Resident Evil and 2024’s Silent Hill 2 by offering new locations. As if we weren't already hyped as it is for this release.
While we don’t know all the details on the new missions at the time of writing, we do know that the mission revealed during the Xbox Showcase is called ‘Operation: Meteorite.” If this first look is anything to go by, playing through these missions as the popular Sergeant should be an absolute blast.

In the mission ‘Operation: Meteorite’, it features an area that has been overtaken by the Covenant, and it will introduce new enemies, such as the ‘Brute Berserker’, who looks like a total beast, quite literally. The new missions will also have new enemy variants, as well as new weapons, all played in a sandbox of mayhem
“Experience the original story rebuilt with high-definition visuals, updated cinematics, and refined controls, gameplay-modifying 'Skulls' – optional modifiers that change combat in fun and challenging ways – add fresh tactics and endless replayability,” reads the description of the game.
“Play it your way: solo, in 2-player split-screen co-op (console only), or up to 4-player online co-op with full crossplay and cross-progression support. Whether you’re discovering Halo for the first time or returning to the ring after 25 years, Halo: Campaign Evolved delivers an adventure that feels both timeless and brand new.”
Halo: Campaign Evolved will be released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S next month, on July 28, 2026. So, we’ve only got just over a month to wait.
However, those who pre-order the Premium or Collector’s Edition will get the game five days earlier than the standard edition on 23 July. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will also get early access.
