A brand new Steam freebie might be the perfect download for Zelda fans.
The Legend of Zelda has proven to be one of the most timeless game franchises of all time, and the fact that it’s still influencing game developers to this day is nothing short of amazing.
Now, a new indie game hitting Steam in the future looks like the perfect spiritual successor to classic Zelda titles like A Link to the Past and Link’s Awakening.
Draco and the Seven Scales, developed by Ice Goat Games, is a pirate-themed action dungeon crawler where you explore dungeons, collect items, and fight scallywags on the seven seas.

It’s got this glorious Game Boy-esque 8-bit aesthetic to it, complete with a green colour scheme, and seems like the perfect throwback to games of that time.
In fact, if you’d told me it was actually a real Game Boy game from 1994, I might have even believed you.
Draco and the Seven Scales features “classic top down dungeons, full of enemies, items, and puzzles,” and a “unique control scheme when sailing the seas with your crew.”
There are apparently “over 15 unique items to collect that assist in combat and puzzles,” which sounds a bit like the rewards you get for completing dungeons in classic Zelda games.

If that all sounds cool to you, a free demo is available to download now which you can grab from Steam. Given that it’ll basically run on any PC, you should have no issues with playing it on your machine.
As for when you’ll be able to get the full game, a release date for Draco and the Seven Scales has not been confirmed yet.
If it’s got a demo, it might mean Ice Goat Games isn’t far off announcing a date, but we’ll wait and see.
