Valheim, Stranger Things Collide In Jaw-Dropping New Open-World RPG

What a strange combo!

In what can be considered a strange combo worthy of the gods, you might want to check out this new open-world RPG if you’re a fan of Valheim and Stranger Things.

When I looked at my to-do list this morning, I never thought for one second that I’d be covering a game that could be considered as a combo between the open-world survival RPG, Valheim and the popular Netflix series, Stranger Things, but here we are.

Originally released in 2021 on PC and later on Xbox, Valheim is one of the most popular MMORPGs in recent years. Oh, if you’re a PlayStation gamer, fear not, because Valheim is coming to Sony consoles soon.

Inspired by Norse mythology, the open world of Valheim is packed full of mythical creatures to hunt or, in some cases, you’ll be hunted. To survive, you’ll have to keep your wits about you and maybe even craft an oversized fort to keep out unwanted guests.

As for Stranger Things, this is a different property entirely, especially with it being a live-action series soon to get its fifth and final season. If you love the 80s nostalgia and horror, there’s a good chance you’ll love this Netflix series, too.

I don't want to give too much away, but the child cast of Stranger Things is turned upside down (quite literally) as a hellish version of our world wants to consume everyone they love.

Anyway, enough of my rambling, what is this game that can be considered a combo of Valheim and Stranger Things, I hear you ask? That game in question is called The Gold River Project, developed and published by the indie team at Fairview Games Inc.

“Welcome to Gold River! A remote camping adventure you can do alone or with friends. A chartered float plane will drop you off by beautiful lakes where you can kayak, hike the gorgeous trails, make camp and fall asleep counting the stars,” reads the synopsis of the game on Steam.

“One week turns into several as you suspect your guide is never coming back. Deserted, you discover you are trapped and now an unwilling lab rat. Can you survive an ever-changing, artificial environment and its inhabitants?”

At the time of writing, The Gold River Project does not have a release date, but after watching one of its gameplay trailers, it might be worth adding to your Steam wishlist. Plus, if added to your wishlist, you’ll be notified when it's ready to launch.
