The Steam Deck is a lovely bit of kit, and a great handheld way to play games, however, after being on the market for a couple of years now, it’s beginning to struggle with the latest games.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered is launching tomorrow, and Naughty Dog took to Twitter to announce the game has been given ‘verified’ status for the Steam Deck, and fans aren’t so sure.

Verified doesn’t always mean the game will run well, just that it will run, and fans have noticed this, roasting the idea that the game will look good on Valve’s handheld.

“Really verified, or Spider-Man 2 verified?” says one Twitter user, referring to the poor performance of the recent release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

As a Steam Deck owner, I’ve come to realise that more recent releases, particularly those reliant on stunning visuals, just won’t look good enough on the hardware.

And even if it still looks decent, the framerate will take a hit.

This is not lost on players, with one saying, “If it's Steam Deck verified, then I have hope that it will run better than Part I.”

If you’re hoping to run the game on Steam Deck, you’ll probably need to lower your expectations, and then the graphics settings on start up.

That’s not an insult, I love my Steam Deck, but this won’t be the ideal way to play such a detailed game.

“Part I really didn’t run great on OLED, lmao,” says one player who tried the previous game on the more powerful version of the Steam Deck.

We love The Last of Us here, and while we’d recommend everyone play this sequel, it might be best to leave it on PlayStation 5 or your gaming PC, to really get the best out of your playthrough.
