The cosy genre has become a tad oversaturated.
There are only so many times we can all be whisked away to a quiet life in the country where we farm, cook, decorate, garden, and romance our neighbours.
These days, cosy titles need a unique selling point beyond the traditional formula to stand out.
That’s precisely what Dragon Shelter has, an upcoming farming sim set within a Skyrim-esque world complete with dragon companions.

Developed by Wild Forest Studio and set to be published by Curve Games, Dragon Shelter is scheduled to launch later in 2026.
A new demo for the title has now arrived on PC storefront Steam ahead of the upcoming Steam Next Fest.
“Join a heartfelt adventure where friendship, care, and hard work restore harmony to a forgotten world,” the synopsis reads.
“Rebuild the lost bond between humans and dragons as you transform abandoned lands into a place filled with warmth and joy.
“Grow crops, gather resources, raise adorable dragons, and help townsfolk rediscover their happiness.”
The dragons play a huge role in the game, with there being several different types, each with their own unique powers.
Essentially, the dragons can help you with your growing, gathering, and more; you simply need to assign them to the relevant task.

The more you work alongside your dragons, the deeper a bond you’ll develop.
They can even cook. These aren’t your ordinary dragons.
The goal of the game is to rebuild your grandpa’s abandoned farm and you’ll master a variety of trades on the road to doing that, including crafting and alchemy.
You aren’t limited to exploring your own land. Dragon Shelter will see you visit a nearby town where the residents have fallen into a mysterious gloom.
It’s up to you to help them out and restore their happiness.
As I said, a brand new demo has launched, which you can enjoy now on Steam.
It features tutorials for the farming and cooking mechanics, and introduces you to the Water Dragon, who can carry out “water-based terraforming abilities”.
You’ll be able to practise growing some crops, cook several starter recipes, meet and help out five townspeople, customise your character, and explore some of the game’s world.
In total, Dragon Shelter’s demo promises to offer two to four hours of content, depending on the pace at which you play, which is very, very generous for a free offering.
Of course, this isn’t the first cosy sim to be set in a fantasy world, but what Dragon Shelter brings to the table looks very promising - and I'm sure we’ll see the demo generate some positive responses in the coming days.
