This new free-to-play title on Steam has already racked up a very impressive review score, and it genuinely might be one of the most original mash-ups of video game genres I’ve seen in years.
Some video game genres just pair well with others. Rougelikes and Soulslikes, first-person shooters and RPGs, anime girls and dating sims– the list is truly endless.
Others, however, seem like they’d be diametrically opposed. For instance, how would you make a MOBA game that’s also a battle royale game? Games like Fortnite and League of Legends have so little in common with one another that a blend of the two seems impossible.
Well, no prizes for guessing what the blend of genres featured in today’s latest free-to-play example is.

SUPERVIVE on Steam is a rather odd blend of DOTA, Overwatch and PUBG, something that sounds absolutely awful but is, according to the reviewers, actually really good (at least if the 89% positive review score is anything to go by).
“I tried this game with low expectations. And to be honest, surprisingly I'm having a blast playing it. It doesn't really bringing anything new compared to the other Battle Royale MOBA, but almost everything in this game is really well done”, writes Steam reviewer Chaqibrahim.
“It also has a heavy "aim vs dodge" mechanic like in Battlerite, which I really miss. So its a huge plus for me. The characters are fun to play and really unique between each other. I REALLY hope that this game will grow big and have loads of characters that we can play.”
“Supervive is four parts Battle Royale, three parts MOBA, and one part Hero Shooter. It combines these genres, finds a middle-ground, and removes some of the more frustrating aspects to create a fresh and fun game”, writes Steam user Brahms.

“And, for better or worse, I think it's missing the long-term addictive substance that inevitably leads to a toxic player base. I recommend Supervive because it's just fun through and through.”
Unsurprisingly, it seems that I shouldn’t have doubted this one, because the team behind it features a lot of industry veterans who have previously worked at studios like Bungie and Riot Games.
Well, I’m convinced. Guess I’ll have to try it out for myself to truly understand how they managed to successfully Frankenstein two genres like this together.
