Elden Ring is set to return in August with the launch of the title’s Tarnished Edition.
Alongside bringing the hit game to Nintendo Switch 2, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will also introduce new starting classes, weapons, and armour sets.
If you want to try out something with a similar flavouring ahead of that, though, you might want to direct your attention towards the free new beta for Mistfall Hunter.
Developed by Bellring Games and published by Skystone Games, Mistfall Hunter is an upcoming action RPG that’s set to launch in full on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on 30 July 2026.

You can, however, test out the game for free from now until 22 June on all of those aforementioned platforms - and that includes PC storefront Steam.
“The gods have fallen, and the Gyldenmist is consuming the world,” Mistfall Hunter’s synopsis begins.
“Revived by a mysterious girl named Dew, you are thrust into a bleak world to harvest Gyldenblood and mend the shattered Web of Fate.
“Scavenge, fight, and extract in a brutal cycle of survival to bring a flicker of hope to this forbidden land.”
Mistfall Hunter shares much in common with Elden Ring.

Players will choose from a number of classes, facing off against deadly threats within a dark fantasy world.
Whereas Elden Ring sees you fend off monstrous creatures devised by the minds at FromSoft, Mistfall Hunter boasts its own quirks.
Certainly, you’ll come face to face with your fair share of bosses here, too, but Mistfall Hunter incorporates PvPvE extraction elements, so it’s also your fellow players you’ll need to stay wary of.
As with all extraction titles, you’ll need to secure loot throughout each run, levelling up between outings in what devs call “the ultimate dark fantasy survival test”.
If you do die, you’ll lose all of your spoils and return to a sort of base camp where you can prepare to set off again.
Played from a third-person perspective, Mistfall Hunter makes use of a “precision free-aim system” which allows you to target an enemy’s weak points.
You can play the title alone or in a squad of three players. With that in mind, Mistfall Hunter isn’t all that different from the Elden Ring spin-off, Nightreign.
This isn’t Mistfall Hunter’s first beta, but even if you’ve played the game before, it’s well worth having another go as there are plenty of new features on display this time around.
The latest beta introduces the Withered Knight class, the Hallowgrave map, and includes a first public look at a Mist Lord boss by the name of Sálmar, the Cursed Moonwane.
The Withered Knight class is one for those who prefer mid-range combat, with a two-handed greatsword being your predominant weapon of choice.
Sálmar, the Cursed Moonwane, is set to be one of Mistfall Hunter’s most difficult end-game bosses, so don’t be too disheartened if you struggle with that particular fight.
This is the first time a Mistfall Hunter beta has opened up to console players which is pretty exciting.
The beta does support cross-play, so if you want to gather a team of friends across both console and PC, you’re in luck.
Get involved while you can until 22 June.
